The Botetourt County Sheriff's Office offers career opportunities for those with the heart to serve their community and the courage to wear the badge. The Botetourt County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia, responsible for primary law enforcement services, jail administration, courtroom security, and the civil process of court-issued documents and papers.
The Minimum Qualifications to be considered for a Deputy Sheriff position are as follows:
1. Be a citizen of the United States.
2. Be required to undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprint-based criminal history records inquiries
3. Have a high school education or have passed the General Educational Development (GED) exam.
4. Possess a valid driver's license.
5. Be willing to undergo a physical examination, subsequent to a conditional employment offer, conducted under a licensed physician's supervision.
6. Be at least 21 years of age | 18 years of age for Corrections Deputy.
7. Not been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth.
8. Not been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including but not limited to petit larceny or any offense involving moral turpitude that would be a misdemeanor if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
9. Not been convicted of any misdemeanor sex offense in the Commonwealth of Virginia, another state, or the United States.
10. Not been convicted of domestic assault under § 18.2-57.2 or any offense that would be domestic assault under the laws of another state or the United States.
